Electromagnetic waves

Your task is to find out about electromagnetic waves.

Follow the instructions and work your way through the links and answer all the questions in your exercise book.

1) First draw these waves into your book:

Now go to this website:

http://www.thomasnet.com/articles/automation-electronics/electronic-microwave-manufacturing

and

2) write down the different kinds of waves found in the electromagnetic spectrum under the diagram in your books.

3) Now use wikipedia to find the range of each type of wavelength and write these into your books.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visible_spectrum

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Frequency

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma_rays

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-rays

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraviolet

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infrared

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microwaves

4) Now use wikipedia again to find out the potential dangers of these wavelengths and write these down in your books.

5) Use your knowledge of the electromagnetic spectrum to write down which EM waves are being described here:

i) has wavelengths between 4 x 10-7m and 8 x 10-7m

ii) has the highest frwequency and the shortest wavelength

iii) can travel through a vacuum

6) If you get time, find out what transmission and absorption mean.
